China’s National Blockchain Standard Committee will be in place by the end of 2018, confirmed an official from the country’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, reported Coindesk on May 28.

The head of the IT ministry’s Information and Software Department, Li Ying, mentioned in a keynote speech at the 2018 Guiyang Big Data Expo that the committee will be based on TC 307 commission, which is a blockchain organization under the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).

The ultimate goal is to have a comprehensive framework for blockchain standards complete till the end of the current year, she expressed, which also confirms a plan revealed by Chinese government officials recently.

Li mentioned,

“We have been working closely with the ISO and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). We should soon have our national technical committee for blockchain standardization ready within this year.”

She said that the goal of this initiative concerning the standardization of blockchain applications development is to “expedite blockchain deployment in areas that most urgently need the nascent tech.”
