Facebook announced that it launches a blockchain research team that will explore the blockchain technology and its multiple applications, reported Coindesk on May 9.
The one that will be leading the group is David Marcus, a former president of Paypal, which has also been Facebook’s Messenger app division vice-president.
Marcus wrote in a post on his Facebook page on May 8,
“After nearly four unbelievably rewarding years leading Messenger, I have decided it was time for me to take on a new challenge. I’m setting up a small group to explore how to best leverage blockchain across Facebook, starting from scratch.”
The team will be composed of approximately 10 people, including engineers and product employees that are currently working at Facebook’s Instagram department.
Marcus mentioned last year that once all the problems will be fixed by the blockchain space, Facebook Messenger will be open to allow cryptocurrency payments.
