Vitalik Buterin, Ethereum’s co-founder, announced that Ethereum’s transaction processing capacity will increase soon, reported Cointelegraph on May 1.
He mentioned that sharding is coming in a tweet on April 30:

Sharding consists in increasing the number of transactions a blockchain can process. The amount of work is then separated between many different network computers, which allows the blockchain to process more transactions in the same period of time.
Buterin explained that it will be a proof of concept and that with this innovation, new blocks will be created in between 2 to 8 seconds in a Reddit post on April 30.
He mentioned in many consecutive tweets:
“I would not say the spec is finalized at this point, though the “bag of ideas” is IMO pretty well-established.”
“The overriding principle is ‘get maximally close to equivalent properties to a single chain,” he added.
