The German National Tourist Board (GNTB) will now be accepting payments for services in cryptocurrency such as Bitcoin, since it is considering the use of blockchain technology for its platform, reported CCN.
The GNTB’s role is to promote Germany as a travel destination.
Developing new products and marketing strategies with the use of innovative technologies “communicates the diverse appeal of the country to a worldwide market, thereby promoting a strong and attractive brand – ‘Destination Germany’,” according to their website.
Petra Hedorfer, the Chairman of the GNTB expressed that the group is always looking for new technologies and how they can apply to the organization.
With the recent growing interest towards cryptocurrency and blockchain, the tourist board decided it was a good decision to implement them to its Board’s digitization strategy, according to CCN.
The GNTB sees many advantages of the blockchain technology over the current system especially regarding transparency and efficiency.
Earlier this week, the German-based securities listing and trading exchange, Deutsche Börse Group announced it is planning to develop a blockchain platform.
